Landfill Gas to Energy Plant reduced oil consumption and extended oil drain intervals by 52%.
A Pennsylvania-based landfill gas-to-energy plant provides asset management and operating support for renewable energy and distributed generation projects. Historically, the plant has used a standard gas engine oil for its CAT 3520 landfill gas engines. Seeking to assist the company in reducing its total cost and time associated with oil changes across the entire engine fleet, the Mobil ServSM Engineering team-initiated talks to trial the new Mobil PegasusTM 605 Ultra 40 gas engine oil.
The Mobil Serv Engineering team recommended a full trial of Mobil Pegasus 605 Ultra 40 gas engine oil, which has been shown to increase oil drain intervals up to two times in other studies, along with Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis to track its performance.
After completing a Mobil ServSM Product Recommendation Study and Landfill Gas Engine Inspection, the team recommended converting the remaining 15 CAT 3520 engines to Mobil Pegasus 605 Ultra 40 gas engine oil.
The trial of Mobil Pegasus 605 Ultra 40 showed a 52% reduction in oil consumption and the potential to extend oil drain intervals. A visual engine inspection conducted by the Mobil Serv Engineering team concluded no unusual wear and exceptional engine cleanliness. As a result, the company estimates that switching to Mobil Pegasus 605 Ultra 40 can generate potential annual savings of US $210,000.
