Safety Policy
Safety – Top priority at Brenntag
Our goal is to be the safest chemical distributor worldwide. This commitment encompasses the health and safety of our employees as well as product safety and the protection of the environment. Safety is part of our corporate strategy.
Worldwide, Brenntag operates in line with the “safety first” principle and has implemented a global strategy in the areas of health and safety and protection of the environment (HSE strategy). This is realized in a variety of ways in the company’s regions and is practiced by every one of our employees. Brenntag is bound by the highest standards in the industry and adopts policies which in many countries far exceed statutory requirements. We are continuously working to further improve our company’s safety culture.
Safety at BRENNTAG is :
- Non-negotiable
- Shared by all
- immutable
A long established security policy
Synonymous with continuous progress in safety, health and the environment, Responsible Care is a voluntary initiative of the global chemical industry: in addition to the norms and regulations that are imposed on it and that it respects, the chemical industry has defined a code of good conduct. Brenntag is committed to the application of this global "Responsible Care" charter from its start in France in 1999. This implies a policy of continuous improvement in terms of safety, health and environmental protection. Brenntag sites are audited every three years by an independent body (AFNOR Certification).
Training of our employees
Brenntag as part of its safety policy attaches great importance to the training of its employees. At Brenntag, more than 1.5% of the payroll is devoted to training, that is to say nearly 900 training sessions delivered, either face-to-face or with our e-learning training tool.
This e-learning is an employee integration and training program. The aim is to make all employees aware of the risks they incur in the course of their work and of course, particularly in the handling of chemicals. These e-learning courses are mandatory for all new entrants and each employee will be required to revalidate modules every 3 years.

We wish to reward Safety excellence
Safety Awards are a European directive which have been launched in 2011. The objective is to contribute to the animation of the Brenntag safety culture by valuing the best safety performances on all our warehouses in Europe. In France, 10 sites received a Safety Award in 2015.
In 2017, our Andance site in Ardèche received the Gold Safety Award for its increased safety culture.
