Treating Drinking Water
Drinking water sources are subject to contamination and require appropriate treatment to remove disease-causing agents. Public drinking water systems use various methods of water treatment to provide safe drinking water for their communities. Today, the most common steps in water treatment used by community water systems include:
- Coagulation and Flocculation
The Safe Drinking Water Act requires that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EAP) sets standards for drinking water in public water systems. Enforcement of this regulation is carried out by state health agencies and some states may set standards that are more stringent than the federal standards.
It is critical for municipalities to use the best chemicals and additives to ensure that drinking water adhears to these standards.
