Accreditations

Brenntag are committed to providing our partners assurance in the quality and safety of the products we store, distribute and manufacture.
We have always been proactive in terms of formal validation of safety and quality principles. Internally we have developed a comprehensive Supplier Approval System requiring mandatory certification, audit reports, production details and production testing for additives and ingredients supplied via the Brenntag network in Europe. In addition to such high level of internal scrutiny, we recognise the requirements and benefits of third-party verification relating to our infrastructure and services.
All of Brenntag UK & Ireland distribution sites have been assessed for ESAD II, received FEMAS accreditation as well as a number of quality standards such as ISO9001, and have gained certification for Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS), with the majority of sites already certified. Our accreditations give customers an even greater confidence in the quality processes we have in place, the training our teams receive, and the commitment to being custodians of the safety for the ingredients supply chain we operate in.

Safety is the core principle at the absolute heart of Brenntag, in the UK & Ireland and globally

With tens of thousands of deliveries across the UK and Ireland every month it is impossible to underestimate the importance of safety operations. “Safety First” is a key principle for Brenntag and a number 1 priority. We work closely with regulators and welcome their input to ensure that all of our COMAH sites, including the upper tier COMAH sites at Lutterworth and Manchester operate to the very highest environmental standards.

Quality standards

This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. Sites accredited: Beauty & Care, Belfast, Bradford, Brenntag Colours (Halifax), Brenntag Solvents (Daresbury, Irlam, Scunthorpe), Bristol, Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Lutterworth, Manchester, North East, Sandbach, Swansea, Tan (Perth).
This standard maps out a framework that an organisation can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. It provides assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved. Sites accredited: Belfast, Brenntag Colours (Halifax), Dublin, Leeds, Sandbach, Swansea, Tan (Perth).
BRCGS Storage and Distribution Standard
This global standard validates the food safety and quality systems that Brenntag has in place to ensure we are meeting the essential chain of custody requirements for the storage and distribution of food ingredients and additives.
BRCGS Food Safety Standard
This global standard applies to sites that re involved in the manipulation of food ingredients and food additives. Such as food blending at Widnes and Belfast or filling from bulk and dilution at Manchester, Lutterworth and Scunthorpe.
Certification validates both the food safety and food quality of these processes and ensures the customers requirements are fulfilled.
We have worked for a number of years to implement a programme of excellence for our feed safety procedure and are FEMAS accredited at 13 of our distribution sites across the UK & Ireland.
As part of this all products sold as “FEMAS certified” will be registered centrally at our Head Office in Leeds and will continue to be audited on an annual basis to ensure we adhere to these standards. FEMAS covers all feed ingredients and feed additives intended for direct feeding to animals (not including pets) or for inclusion in compound feeds and blends and helps provide assurance to customers that they are getting feeds and blends from audited, safe sources. The accreditation is based upon HACCP principles which Brenntag UK & Ireland have implemented and followed across our site network for a number of years.
As part of our FEMAS accreditation, Brenntag UK & Ireland will act as a “gatekeeper” which allows us to source non-assured ingredients and take the relevant steps to ensure their safety before trading them on as assured. All products sourced this way will be individually submitted for approval to our auditors, KIWA (Product Authentication Inspectorate). KIWA PAI is a UKAS accredited product conformity certification body and specialises in agricultural supplies, food and farm certification.
ESAD (the European Single Assessment Document) provides a voluntary assessment system to evaluate the quality, safety, security, and environmental performance of chemical distributors.
A single assessment is carried out by independent auditors using a standard questionnaire. The single assessment avoids the need for distributors to undergo multiple assessments by chemical producers. The audit is also used by distributors to check their compliance to the eight guiding principles of Responsible Care.
ESAD is part of the SQAS programme; objectivity; neutrality, transparency, and free access to the system for the user of the chemical industry. The SQAS distributor/ ESDA assessment questionnaire consists of four parts:
  • Distributor Standard Activities (Di)
  • Site Assessment (S)
  • Chlorinated Solvents (Cs)
  • Food, Cosmetics and/or Pharma (F)
Brenntag have had 13 sites in the UK & Ireland assessed for ESAD and a detailed list for what each site was assessed for can be found in the table below.
