Boric Acid is typically a colorless crystal or white powder that is soluble in water. Common applications of boric acid in industrial products include the manufacture of fiberglass, insecticides, antiseptics, flame retardants, and — when used as a foundation for other compounds — as a neutron absorber.

It has a melting point of 171 degrees Celsius and a boiling point of 300 degrees Celsius. Proper clothing must be worn and precautions must be taken when handing boric acid to avoid skin, eye, and mucous membrane irritation. Unused amounts of boric acid should be stored in a well-ventilated, cool, dry storage area.
