Acetone

Acetone is one of the most widely used solvents in the world due to is combination of high solvency and a high rate of evaporation. It can be found in many everyday products including paints, cleaning fluids, nail polish remover and adhesives. Acetone, or propanone, is an organic compound with the formula (CH3)2CO. It is the simplest and smallest ketone. It is a colourless, highly volatile and flammable liquid with a characteristic pungent odour. Acetone is miscible with water and serves as an important organic solvent in its own right, in industry, home, and laboratory. Acetone is commonly found in products such as: acetylene, adhesives and cements, cleaning fluids, extraction solvent, gel coats, ink solvent, lacquer thinner, nail polish, nail polish remover, paint solvent, paint strippers, pharmaceuticals, polyurethane foam, PVC cement, sealants, solvent, and varnish.
