The light yellow, soft Cupuacu Butter from Kerfoot (INCI: Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter) with its pleasant odour is obtained from the seeds of the South American Cupuaçu tree. Traditionally, the seeds were used as a remedy for abdominal pain and the butter is still used today for wound healing.
The fatty acid content of Cupuacu Butter is similar to that of shea butter, but the melting point (about 30 ° C) is lower than that of shea butter. Due to this low melting point, Cupuacu butter melts on the skin, it spreads easily and is quickly absorbed. It leaves a pleasant, non-greasy skin after-feel.
In addition to a high percentage of saturated fatty acids, Cupuacu Butter contains phytosterols (improve skin elasticity and prevent premature aging) and vitamin E (antioxidant). The butter has antimicrobial and antioxidative properties, an excellent water binding capacity, emulsifying and thickening properties as well as a soothing effect on the skin. In hair applications, it improves the elasticity and moisturizes the hair.
Cupuacu Butter can be used in its pure form (e.g. as a body melt) or in lip care, sun care, body and facial creams and lotions of all kinds (3 - 5%), in soaps (3 - 6%) and in hair conditioners and treatments (2 - 5%).
