Brenntag, the global market leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, was awarded the German Sustainability Awards in the category Chemicals and Materials Wholesale, as well as the Transformation Award for Climate Transition.
The German Sustainability Awards (Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis) are among Europe’s leading awards for sustainable excellence, honoring companies, municipalities, architects, research teams, and individuals that demonstrate outstanding environmental and social leadership. Established to accelerate the shift toward a sustainable future, the awards spotlight innovative solutions in climate protection, resource efficiency, circular economy, and fair value creation.
Andreas Kicherer, Vice President Sustainability Brenntag Group, received the awards on stage at the annual ceremony in Düsseldorf, Germany on December 5th, 2025. He commented: “I am incredibly proud of our achievements at Brenntag. Receiving one of the most prestigious ESG recognitions in Germany. This is a testament to the hard work of our teams and our company’s strong ambitions for driving sustainable change in our industry and beyond. It marks the culmination of a year in which we continued achieving many important milestones, from our SBTi target validation to our expanding fleet of electric vehicles and the opening of our CO2 emissions free site in Austria.”
Brenntag was awarded for its comprehensive, measurable approach to climate action, including a Carbon Management Program with an internal carbon price and climate fund, and Project C.E.R.O. as a global roadmap for decarbonization. The company has also implemented concrete measures such as sourcing 87.4% renewable electricity, deploying e-trucks, heat pumps, and solar panels, and operating the world’s first CO₂-emission-free chemical distribution site. These efforts have delivered tangible results, with Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduced by 6.4%, Scope 3 by 4.8%, and 67.7% of remaining emissions offset through certified projects compared to the base year of 2023. Complementing this, a Low-Carbon Product Portfolio and the TÜV-certified CO₂Xplorer tool enhance transparency and help customers decarbonize also their supply chains.
Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, also recognised Brenntag’s CO₂e Management program with the Responsible Care Award 2025 for advancing a safer, more sustainable future.
