Brenntag GmbH and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences join forces for application-oriented teaching

Brenntag GmbH and the Faculty of Trade and Social Work at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Germany, plan to work together in the area of personnel marketing and to enhance application-oriented teaching for the Trade and Logistics study program. This newly signed cooperation agreement aims to improve the quality of application-oriented teaching and to raise students’ awareness of Brenntag, the global market leader in chemical distribution, as an employer.
The Faculty of Trade and Social Work has provided a BA course in Trade and Logistics – essentially a business administration course with a strong focus on trade and logistics – with an integrated practical phase at its Suderburg campus since 2010. The faculty will assist Brenntag in recruiting qualified personnel, drawing students’ attention to suitable job opportunities, internships and traineeships in the company. Brenntag employees will also have the opportunity to give lectures at teaching events, which in turn allows them to showcase the company and to forge contacts with students.
Brenntag will also help the Faculty of Trade and Social Work to increase the hands-on orientation of its teaching. By visiting the company’s logistics locations or headquarters, students will gain valuable insights into everyday operations. In addition, Brenntag assignments or case studies will be available for use in application-oriented teaching events. It will also provide the internships that form a compulsory part of the study program and have its specialists act as supervisors for practice-oriented bachelor theses.
Sven Dietze, Head of HR Business at Brenntag GmbH: “Working together with Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences gives us an admirable opportunity to make students aware of the chemical distribution sector in general and our company in particular. It also allows us to forge contacts early on with well-educated emerging talent.”
Prof. Christian Rafflenbeul-Schaub, who initiated the cooperation on Ostfalia’s side, commented: “We are delighted to have found, in Brenntag, an international wholesale company as a cooperation partner. We want to give our students as much hands-on knowledge as possible and to raise the national profile of this course even further.”
