Due to industry and media awareness, as well as increasing pressures to value engineer finished products, formulators are seeking more natural, safe and cost effective preservation systems. This can be a difficult task. For example, the most natural preservative available may also be the most expensive whilst not necessarily the most effective, and the most cost effective preservative may not be naturally derived.
This can be a difficult balancing act for the formulator to face, but all of the above may be achievable with the addition of Dissolvine® GL-47-S.
Dissolvine® GL-47-S is a 47% active solution of GLDA (Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate), that is approved by certifying bodies such as Ecocert, EU and Nordic Ecolabel and COSMOS*.
Dissolvine® GL-47-S is a green and plant derived chelating agent (based on sugar (bio)chemistry), which has a strong affinity for Calcium, Magnesium and Iron metal ions.
How does Dissolvine® GL-47-S boost preservatives?
Dissolvine® GL-47-S itself is not a preservative, but boosts preservative performance (lowering costs and improving ecological and toxicity profiles). Dissolvine® GL-47-S successfully does this by weakening the cell wall of the bacteria, yeasts and moulds.
The species is deprived of multivalent cations, weakening the outer surface, making the cell more vulnerable for the action of preservatives.

The effect of Dissolvine® GL-47-S can be further increased by the addition of Citric Acid as a pH adjuster. The citrates formed by the addition of Citric Acid support the complexing effect of Dissolvine® GL-47-S1.
