Acetone, also known as propanone (or 2-propanone) or dimethyl ketone, is an organic compound derived from propylene via the cumene process. It is a colorless, volatile, flammable liquid, and the simplest and smallest ketone. Acetone is miscible with water and other materials such as benzene, ethanol, and methanol, as well as serves as an important solvent in its own right.
