Digital distribution: bringing the chemical industry into the 21st century
Online shopping is here to stay. Over the last ten years, more and more people continue to do their shopping online. Whether you are looking for a pair of new sneakers, the newest smartphone, a vacation or even grocery shopping, you can do it while sitting on your sofa watching the news. And as with many other things, we tend to bring our private habits into our work life. Therefore, Brenntag Nordic launched a customer portal in 2016, where users of industrial chemicals and food ingredients can do their ordering just as easily as when they are shopping online at home
Although digitalization is no longer a new phenomenon, digital services are still rather new within the chemical industry. However, even though it may have taken a few extra years, more and more chemical distributors are now catching up and developing new, digital solutions that can meet customer’s needs - with Brenntag being no exception.
In Brenntag Nordic, our first step towards digitalization was the development of a customer portal. Customers who prefer the web over the phone can place orders online at our online purchasing platform. Digital purchasing platforms, as Brenntag Nordic’s customer portal, brings more transparency to the chemical market. It makes it easier to follow prices, gives a better overview of alternative chemical substances and ingredients and provides an improved overview of purchasing histories including order amount, frequency etc.
With more chemical substances visible and available at one platform, it makes it easier for customers to gather their purchases at one place, which minimized freight costs and benefits the environment as less trucks will be on the road. Hopefully, the industry will se many more digital services and solutions over the next years that can help bring the industry forward in new innovative ways.
In Brenntag Nordic, our customer portal is still a work in progress, as we are constantly trying to improve our selves to meet the needs of our customers – both those who prefer placing orders online and those who still enjoy calling on the phone placing an order while having a chat and catching up with our sales reps.
