The Bluesil™ BP grades are very effective water repellents which create a water-proof barrier whilst maintaining the surface porosity and breathability of the building substrate materials.
This leads to several benefits including:
- Outstanding resistance to weathering
- High protection against efflorescence, algae and fungi
- Improved thermal conductivity
- Reduced maintenance costs.
Bluestar silicone water repellents are easy-to-use. The products are usually diluted in water or solvent and applied by dipping, brushing or spraying. The dilution ratio is typically 1 part water repellent to 4.5 - 20 parts diluent and the resulting solution is stable for at least 1 year.
The water repellent performance of the treated materials is dependent upon the quantity of water repellent applied to the surface and will only be optimal if sufficient material is applied.
Additionally, the dilution concentration must take into account the absorption capacity of the material and its porosity.
Average consumptions frequently observed on different type of substrate are as follows:
|Substrate||Total Porosity %||Solution l/ m2|
|Mortar||12||0.3 – 0.6|
|Porous limestone||40||1.5 – 2.2|
|Low porosity stone||14||0.2 – 0.5|
|Brick||30||0.6 – 0.9|
