A more environmentally friendly and economical energy supply - our "La Isla" site in Seville is the first site in our Iberia region that has installed solar panels on its roof. Analysis shows that over the course of the year, a total of 40 percent of the required energy will be generated from solar energy. The installation of the solar system was completed at the end of 2023 and the use of the systems began in early 2024. This technology enables the site to obtain part of its energy from renewable sources and consume less CO2 as solar energy production produces of course no greenhouse gas emissions during their lifetime and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The introduction of solar energy is not only environmentally friendly, but also offers economic benefits by reducing energy costs and potentially feeding surplus electricity into the grid. In the first quarter of 2024, this has already saved ca. 37% of energy costs - more than 30,000 Euro - and more than 14,000 kg of CO2 - as much CO2 as 639 mature trees can store.
Overall, the decision to install solar panels on the roof underlines the site's and Brenntag's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. By using renewable energy and promoting environmentally friendly practices, Brenntag is meeting the challenges of climate change. And this was just the first step in Iberia - the sites in Murcia and Valencia will also be upgraded with solar panels in the future. In this regard Brenntag Quimica, S.A.U. has received aid from the European Union from the NextGenerationEU Fund, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, for solar panels at the La Isla site in Seville within the incentive program linked to self-consumption and storage, with renewable energy sources, as well as the implementation of renewable thermal systems in the residential sector of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, managed by the Junta de Andalucia, through the Andalusian Energy Agency.
