What is Sodium Chloride
You likely best know sodium chloride by its household name — table salt. Table salt is used in countless applications in the food and beverage industry to add flavor or preserve food. It can be incorporated into a food or drink by the producer or sold directly to the customer to use freely. Both uses are approved and recognized as safe by the FDA.
Salt is specifically listed in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Section 182.1 — substances that are generally recognized as safe for their intended use. As long as it is used for the correct purpose and follows good manufacturing practice, you are free to ingest sodium chloride or add it to the food products you manufacture.
