Chemical Distributor Sponsors National Chemistry Competition and Celebration Dinner

ARLINGTON, VA, June 18, 2012 – Brenntag North America, Inc, headquartered in Reading, PA, will serve as a premiere sponsor of the National You Be The Chemist Challenge (Challenge) competition – a question-and-answer academic competition for students in grades 5-8 – created by the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF).

The Challenge is an educational program that engages middle school students in learning chemistry concepts, important discoveries, and chemical safety awareness tips. It also serves as a means by which members of the chemical industry can interact with the schools and organizations in their community.

The National Challenge will take place on June 25, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA, at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The event is the culmination of smaller Local and State Challenge events held nationwide throughout the school year. The top twenty-two students, one from each participating state and the District of Columbia, advance to the national competition.

Brenntag will serve as a top-tier sponsor of the National Challenge competition and the National Challenge Celebration Dinner held at The National Constitution Center on the same night as the competition. It will include an award ceremony for the Challenge participants and live entertainment. The event will also provide participants and educators the opportunity to interact with those business leaders, chemical industry members, chemists, and educators in attendance.

“The importance of industry involvement on the enhancement of our nation’s current academic standing must not be underestimated. Brenntag recognizes its responsibility to pave the way for the future resources in our industry and that is why Brenntag has made the You Be The Chemist Challenge an integral part of its outreach efforts,” stated Bill Fidler, President & CEO, Brenntag North America, Inc. He added, “Since the beginning of our involvement, Brenntag has expanded Challenge sites to communities in five different states, developing mutually beneficial relationships across the country.”

Brenntag’s sponsorship allows CEF to invite participants, chaperones, and educators to travel to Philadelphia for the National Challenge and to visit historic sites and museums such as The Franklin Institute. Additionally, it allows participants to receive exciting prizes including Thames & Kosmos CHEMC3000 chemistry kits, gift certificates to the Discovery Channel Store, and Challenge T-shirts, bags, and other giveaways. The top four placing participants will receive scholarship money for future educational use. For more information, visit
