Advancing further in its expansion plans, FrieslandCampina Ingredients - the global innovator in healthy and functional ingredients - today announces that the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia (TGA) has added galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) to its Permissible Ingredients Determination for listed complementary medicines in Australia. With the approval, in partnership with FrieslandCampina Ingredients, Brenntag Australia Pty Ltd has been given the rights to distribute Biotis® GOS for use in listed medicine for 2 years. This means Australian manufacturers can now create efficacious gut health supplements with FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ range of high-quality prebiotic solutions.

Unlocking the power of prebiotics

Demand for natural gut health solutions in Australia is fast-growing; 40% of Australian consumers say gut health is ‘extremely important’ to them and 30% suffer from issues related to gut health[1]. As a result, emerging ingredients like prebiotics are growing in popularity – 53% of consumers in the region are already aware of prebiotics and of these, over half (54%) understand the digestive health support they can offer[1].
Biotis® GOS creates solutions that support gut health, promotes healthy digestion, intestinal flora balance, and friendly bacteria in the gut. By using Biotis® GOS range, brands can create scientifically proven applications that support gut health and overall well-being to meet the demands of increasingly health-conscious consumers.
The addition of Biotis® GOS range to the TGA’s Permissible Ingredients Determination includes Biotis® GOS-OP High-Purity, which has been designed specifically to enable the formulation of prebiotic supplements. This high-concentration prebiotic[2] is the company’s purest prebiotic with a GOS content of over 90%, meaning that the solution is efficacious in doses as low as 2 grams[3]. With 54% of consumers preferring to consume their gut health supplements in gummy formats[1]. formulators can stand out in this market with trending formats that deliver both proven and sought-after health benefits.
