EcoVadis Sustainability Assessment
Brenntag belongs to the top companies assessed
Brenntag already has voluntarily undergone several EcoVadis assessments. In its April 2020 assessment, Brenntag Group was awarded 71 points and thereby maintaining our gold status already achieved in 2016 (Gold Recognition Level). The result ranks Brenntag among the top companies in our industry as well as among the top suppliers assessed overall by EcoVadis across all industry categories.
Brenntag is keen to achieve further scoring improvements. Moreover, as part of its "Together for Sustainability" membership, Brenntag encourages its own suppliers to undergo an EcoVadis self-assessment.
"The excellent rating that we were awarded again strengthens our responsible business practices as well as creating transparency in our sustainability activities."
Christian Kohlpaintner, CEO Brenntag

EcoVadis evaluates several thousand companies every year in this way, in around 200 different industrial sectors in 160 countries. More than 65,000 companies use EcoVadis to reduce risk, drive innovation and foster transparency and trust between trading partners.
CDP Climate Ranting
In 2020, Brenntag has taken part for the third time in international organization CDP’s climate rating project. Every year, CDP analyzes several thousand companies worldwide with regard to their strategic approach to the challenges of climate change and rates their climate management activities based on a comprehensive list of criteria.
Brenntag was again awarded a C (“Awareness”) in the Climate Change 2020 rating. CDP awards company ratings from A (“Leadership”) to D (“Disclosure”).
- By taking part in the CDP rating, Brenntag aims to further develop its energy and CO2 reporting based on recognized standards.
- At the same time, the company is responding to calls from customers and investors for greater transparency and comparability in its reporting on CO2 emissions, and is also demonstrating its progress in climate management.
- In addition, taking part in external rating programs like that of CDP shows Brenntag new potential and ways to further enhance its sustainability strategy and its monitoring so that the company can continue to make positive contributions to protecting the environment.
By its own account, CDP rates the climate data of almost 8,400 companies every year on behalf of more than 525 institutional investors. According to CDP, these investors represent some 96 trillion USD in fund assets and factor this data into their investment decisions.
