On 18 September 2013, Brenntag GmbH was presented with a bronze International German Training Award by German coaching association BDVT for its MOVE employee development program. The award ceremony took place as part of HR exhibition “HRM Expo”, which was held in Cologne, Germany, between 17 and 19 September 2013. This is the second time that Brenntag GmbH has received an award from the BDVT. In 2011, the company’s Management Development Program was presented with a silver award.
Uwe Schültke, Chairman of the Management Board of Brenntag GmbH, explains: “Owing to the current lack of highly skilled specialists and the flattening of hierarchies, it is more important than ever to offer attractive working environments and development opportunities. Today, it is just as important to provide ambitious specialists with opportunities and challenges as it is in the case of managers. Particularly when it comes to talented specialists who work in demanding positions, it is essential to provide them with training opportunities, to motivate them, and to forge a lasting bond between them and the company.” Because of this, Brenntag GmbH joined forces with personnel and organizational development consultants Hattinger Büro to establish MOVE, an employee development program that is implemented parallel to the management development program.
MOVE offers young high-performers interesting perspectives and challenges and is geared specially towards Brenntag’s needs. The aim of the program is to allow motivated employees to develop their skills integrally. Here, the focus is on deepening and broadening specialist and personal skills. As well as this, it allows participants to draw on other people’s experiences and to form networks.
The participants complete three four-day modules over a period of ten months. Key topics such as communication, team management, project management and a personal development assessment are supplemented by talks on current topics by speakers from the Brenntag Group. Uwe Schültke is full of praise: “Our participants are extremely motivated. The self-directed project work in small groups is particularly effective. Even when the program has ended, the projects continue to be pursued and implemented. In addition to the learning effect, this allows teams to make an active contribution to the company’s development.”
The International German Training Award has been presented by coaching association BDVT since 1992. BDVT is the largest and oldest professional association for trainers, consultants and coaches in the German market. The award is presented annually to outstanding vocational training concepts and in-company qualification measures.
