Retired Brenntag CEO Honored for Educational Outreach Initiatives

ARLINGTON, VA., April 4, 2012 –The Chemical Educational Foundation® (CEF) has named Stephen R. Clark, retired CEO of Brenntag AG, winner of its prestigious Vanguard Award for his outstanding efforts on behalf of science education.

For over a decade, CEF has presented the Vanguard Award to an individual whose leadership, commitment and outreach efforts have helped to advance the Foundation’s mission of fostering a greater understanding of the science and benefits of chemistry.

At Brenntag, Clark has been an advocate for the company’s science education initiatives, continuously encouraging Brenntag employees to volunteer their time and resources towards outreach endeavors that increase students’ understanding of science. Specifically, Clark and Brenntag have long offered their support to CEF and its You Be The Chemist® (YBTC) programs. Clark formerly served for five years on the CEF Board of Trustees, including terms as Vice President and President. During his tenure, CEF saw unprecedented growth in both programmatic expansion and financial support. Under his leadership, CEF’s YBTC programs were implemented in Brenntag communities nationwide and continue to flourish today.

“Mr. Clark’s unwavering commitment to science education is truly admirable. At CEF, we understand the immense value that industry involvement adds to the science education opportunities for our youth,” stated John Rice, Executive Director of CEF. “It is only with the support of dedicated industry leaders such as Mr. Clark that our organization is able to grow the educational experiences available to educators and students, as well as build positive community relationships. It is our honor to present Mr. Clark with this award,” he added.

Clark will be honored at CEF’s Vanguard Award Dinner & Ceremony at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA, on May 15, 2012. Stephen D. Pryor, President of ExxonMobil Chemical Company, will serve as the guest speaker for the award ceremony. The event kicks off the Washington Fly-In week of the National Association of Chemical Distributors and will be attended by members of the chemical distribution and manufacturing industries, as well as members of allied organizations.
