2015 You Be The Chemist (YBTC)

For the 8th year Brenntag has sponsored local You Be The Chemist Challenges® for 5th – 8th grade students across the country. The Q & A style event was founded by the Chemical Educational Foundation® in 2004.

During February and March employee volunteers from Brenntag Northeast, Brenntag Specialties and the North American headquarters coordinated 4 local Pennsylvania Challenges, and 1 local New Jersey Challenge. Lehigh County, PA
The 2nd Annual Lehigh Valley Challenge was held on February 21, 2015 hosted by Muhlenberg College Chemistry Department.

Participating Schools: St. Thomas More (Allentown Diocese), Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School (Southern Lehigh S.D.) and South Mountain Middle School (Allentown S.D.).

The 8th Annual Berks County Challenge was held on March 7, 2015, hosted by Penn State University, Berks American Chemical Society Chapter.

The 1st Annual Bergen County Challenge was held on March 28, 2015, hosted by Franklin Avenue Middle School in Franklin Lakes, NJ.

Participating Students: 30

The ten Challenge finalists moving onto the NJ State Challenge are:

An alternate student was also named at each PA Challenge, in the event one of the four finalists is unable to participate in the State Challenge.

Nationwide 37 states plus Washington DC will hold State Challenges on April 25, 2015.

The PA State Challenge will be held at Penn State, University Park and is sponsored by Penn State University, BASF, Dow Chemical, and Brenntag North America.

Three NJ counties will each send 10 students to compete in the NJ State Challenge held at BASF in Florham Park and is sponsored by BASF, Dow Chemical and Brenntag North America.

The State Winners will compete in the National Challenge held on June 22, 2015, at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Brenntag's participation in community outreach is an important part of our responsibility as a chemical distributor. We are interested in participating in programs that will provide local benefit. Brenntag has partnered with the CEF® to help educate the community about the important role chemicals play in our society. Brenntag sponsors the You Be The Chemist Challenge® to spark interest in school age students in the sciences, especially chemistry. Our students today are our future tomorrow.
