Specific Examples of Work Health and Safety Practices and Model Environmental Protection Activities

An ongoing exchange of experience between the Responsible Care and HSE officers from the various regions, Brenntag national subsidiaries and locations ensures the smooth and efficient flow of information: they can all learn from each another, and no one needs to "invent the wheel a second time".

 

Yet the work of committees, the exchange of experience and the collection of data make up only a small part of our efforts in the field of environmental protection and work health and safety. Most of the measures taken in this area are "hands-on".

 

Below are just a few small examples of specific occupational safety and environmental protection measures at Brenntag:

 

• Overflow basins and liquid-tight warehouse zones prevent even the smallest product quantities from seeping into the soil or the groundwater.
• Reusable containers are offered for many products, and this reduces the volume of packaging material and therefore the consumption of raw materials.
• At many of the newer locations, waste water is processed so thoroughly in a number of different stages that it can be treated in the municipal sewage plants just like normal household water.
• Gas recirculation lines prevent solvent gases from escaping into the atmosphere during filling operations.
• Ongoing training courses for employees instill a keen awareness for potential risks and how to avoid them.
• The truck fleet is equipped with a wide range of safety extras extending far beyond the legal requirements.
• Optimized itinerary planning ensures that the trucks making deliveries to our customers keep fuel consumption to a minimum.
