Duisburg: Model Plant

Duisburg

With an area of 60,000 m² and around 120 employees, the distribution center in Duisburg-Hüttenheim opened in 1998 is one of Brenntag's biggest facilities, filling and packaging around 70,000 tons of chemicals every year. Around 40% of the capital invested in the construction of the distribution center was spent on environmental protection and occupational safety. In many areas, the Brenntag facility has also set new standards that extend far beyond the group itself.

The storage and filling zones are housed in four separate building sections for safety reasons, for example. The entire warehouse area is fitted with an ingenious multi-layered floor protection system which prevents contamination of the soil and groundwater. A state-of-the-art waste water treatment system cleans the waste water from the facility, and all firefighting water is collected in the event of fire. In addition, both the employees and the freight forwarders undergo continuous training to promote an awareness for the necessity of safe work routines.
