Open vs. Closed Systems

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) has unique properties making it crucial to use the proper equipment when dispensing. To maintain purity, we suggest customers use closed systems to prevent contamination that can lead to clogged filters and injectors.

What are closed systems?

Our closed system solutions assist in maintaining the purity and quality of your Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

Closed systems have a valve coupling system that seals the container opening on drums and totes (IBCs). This will prevent contaminants such as dirt, debris, and bugs from entering the container.

A pump is required for dispensing from closed systems. Closed systems require that the dispensing unit have a coupler on the end of the dispensing hose which will connect to the tote’s MicroMatic valve.

Open vs. Closed Systems

Brenntag works with high quality equipment suppliers, with products designed specifically for closed DEF Systems. Insertion pumps are not compatible with closed systems.
